The 60th National Ngā Manu Kōrero concludes with outstanding performances from rangatahi, celebrating Māori oratory and cultural identity across Aotearoa.
The 60th National Ngā Manu Kōrero speech competition concluded today, with the future of Māori oratory looking brighter than ever.
Held annually since 1965, the event showcases the speaking talents of rangatahi across Aotearoa in both te reo Māori and English, celebrating cultural identity, leadership, and critical thinking.
This year’s winners are:
- Pei Te Hurinui Jones Contest (Senior Reo Māori): Te Kahurangi Teinakore-Huaki – Te Wharekura o Kirikiriroa, Hamilton
- Korimako Contest (Senior English): Scott Picard – Onslow College, Wellington
- Te Rāwhiti Ihaka Contest (Junior Reo Māori): Atareta Milne – Te Kura o Te Koutu, Rotorua
- Sir Turi Carroll Contest (Junior English): Pou Ariki Hemara-Daniel – Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rangiāniwaniwa, Kaitaia
Kaihāpai Dr Rawiri Tinirau says Ngā Manu Kōrero has been nurturing rangatahi for six decades, providing a platform to articulate views, raise important issues, and reaffirm cultural identity.
