The Warriors have suffered a heartbreaking 10-8 loss to the Cronulla Sharks after a late field goal sealed a tense NRL clash at Go Media Stadium.
In a brutal defensive battle, the Warriors looked set to push for victory before Sharks fullback Will Kennedy charged down a late Te Maire Martin field goal attempt, giving Cronulla one final chance to strike.
Moments later, Braydon Trindall slotted the match-winning one-pointer to put the visitors ahead with two minutes remaining.
The Warriors still had a late opportunity to level the game, but Adam Pompey pushed a long-range penalty attempt wide in the final minute.
The result was a painful blow for the Auckland side, who remain near the top of the NRL ladder but have now dropped another tight contest after their narrow loss to Penrith.
Te Maire Martin scored the Warriors’ only try, while Pompey added a conversion and penalty. Jesse Ramien crossed for Cronulla, with Trindall adding the extras, a penalty and the decisive field goal.
The Sharks’ win continues their strong run of form and moves them closer to the Warriors in the top-eight race.
For the Warriors, the focus now turns to regrouping quickly as they look to keep their finals push on track.
