Forestry Minister Todd McClay says the Government is cancelling the $30.25 a hectare annual service charge for the forestry emissions trading scheme for the 2023/24 year.
He says costs imposed on forestry owners by the previous government were excessive and unreasonable.
An independent review identified issues in the previous government’s ETS cost recovery settings which he will work with the sector to rectify.
There are more than 590,000 hectares of post-1989 forest land in the ETS and around 4,200 forestry participants.
