Luxon lagging in likeability poll
Labour MP Willie Jackson says a poll showing Chris Hipkins beating Chris Luxon as preferred prime minister would have come as a shock to the Government.
The Taxpayers Union-Curia poll found the Prime Minister’s post-Budget favorability score dropped 13 points to negative-5 percent.
The Labour leader’s net favourability rose 4 points to hit 3 percent.
National was down 1.9 points on last month to 35.4 percent, while its coalition parties ACT and New Zealand First remained mostly steady on 9.7 percent and 5.6 percent respectively.
Labour slipped 0.6 points to land at 29.4 percent, but the Greens bounced up 2.5 points to 12.7 percent. Te Pāti Māori was up 0.9 points to 4.0 percent..
Mr Jackson says Mr Luxon is now the most unpopular prime minister since World War 2..
“They’re ahead by the skin of their teeth. In fact I don’t know if they are ahead because the Maori Party didn’t get 5 percent in the poll but you’re not taking into account they have a number of electorates so they will be hugely worried, especially in the leadership area where Chippie is miles ahead of their prime minister,” Mr Jackson says.
