The founder of Whangarei’s free legal clinic says Aotearoa is facing an access-to-justice crisis – and it’s affecting people’s mental health.
Keegan Jones from Ngāti Hine runs a fortnightly clinic in Whāngarei, and from Tuesday he will aso run a monthly clinic in Kerikeri to service Far North whānau.
He’s working in partnership with Citizens Advice and Te Whatu Ora, offering an holistic service which is appreciated by many whānau.
“I want to show the country that this is a clear need. I believe that we’re in an access to justice crisis at the moment. A lot of our whanau are struggling and we need to provide an holisitic approach to providing legal information – which includes health services at the same time,” Mr Jones says.
The clinics can cover any legal issue – but usually whanau are seeking advice on criminal, family or land matters.
