Former National Party leader turned Auckland Business Chamber chief executive Simon Bridges says the Government needs to remember which city voted for change.
He says small and medium Auckland businesses hoped for quick relief after the election, but the last two financial quarters have been tough, and they want some help from today’s Budget.
If Wellington or Christchurch were the swing electorates, Labour and Green would be in power.
“It’s Auckland that voted for change in much higher numbers, and that’s the reason why you’ve got a National-NZ First-ACT Government. What do they say, you dance with the one that brought you … you’re nice to those who are nice to you. So I hope we do see not just koha, actually but policy momentum around Auckland,” he says.
Mr Bridges says the Reserve Bank is keeping interest rates high to control inflation, so the struggle won’t get easier any time soon.
