Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has stood down New Plymouth MP David MacLeod from his select committee roles for failing to properly declare election donations.
The first term National MP was chairing the environment committee hearing submissions on the Fast Track Approvals Bill and was a member of the finance and expenditure committee.
Mr MacLeod apologised for missing eight candidate donations worth $168,335 received in 2022 and one $10,000 donation for 2023.
He says he mistakenly thought the return was for 2023 only, and the 2022 donations had already been filed.
Mr MacLeod’s revised electoral return shows a total campaign war chest of $207,662, including large donations from former New Plymouth mayor Peter Tennent, New Plymouth hotel owners Darrin and Anna Muggeridge, property magnates Trevor Farmer, Mark Wyborn, Peter Francis and Colin Reynolds, and supermarket owner Jason Witehira.
His total election spend on advertising was $22,826.51.
