Rongoā law to be rehashed
The Government intends to repeal the Therapeutic Products Act and a develop separate regime for natural health products.
Associate Minister for Health Casey Costello told parliament there was still widespread opposition to the Act, which was passed in 2022 after 10 years in development and replaced the 40-year-old Medicines Act.
“Repealing the Act responds to the concerns of industry, consumers and practitioners who felt the Act would lead to over-regulation of low risk products, impose unnecessary costs and lead to products becoming more expensive or unavailable. This would have limited consumer choice and negatively affect traditional medicine practitioners and rongoā Māori.” she says.
