Māori public servants unsettled by cull
A former public servant says it appears many younger and older Māori public servants are jumping before they are pushed.
Freelance Māori policy and cultural advisor Ātawhai Tibble says he’s sad to see the mass lay-offs in the public service, with more than 4-thousand jobs axed since the coalition Government took power.
Many of those looking for new jobs are in the Tūhono Māori Network which he helped to found.
0:16If we’re totally honest, the public service, it’s a different beast – and we’re kind of seeing that in action now ay? Ministers and their bossess kind of rule the roost – and you are working on the crown’s side. You’re not really working on the iwi side. And the iwi are more pronounced now, in 2024.
Ātawhai Tibble says the Tūhono Network is trying to help members who lose their jobs find new ones.
