The winners of the Prime Minister’s Science Prizes were announced last night, and the main prize winner is the University of Otago’s HDGC Research Group which in 1995, a partnered up Otago researchers and Kimihauora Health and Research Clinic, on behalf of the McLeod whānau (Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui) who had a strong history of stomach cancer and wanted to find the gene responsible.
