Slow media decline surprised dumped minister
Former Broadcasting Minister Melissa Lee says that she was too slow in responding to the changing media environment.
Ms Lee made her first appearance yesterday after being sacked by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon from the Media and Communications portfolio last week.
She says she was disappointed by the move given her passion for the industry.
“What happened was that media was facing very difficult times very quickly and it’s actually come about quite suddenly and I think although we were actually thinking there needed to be some changes it just came about really, really too fast and I was trying, but things in government catually take time and perhaps I was a little slow. What I can say is I tried my very best and this decision as been made and I respect the Prime Minister’s decision,” Ms Lee says.
Ms Lee was replaced by Paul Goldsmith but remains Minister for Economic Development and Ethnic Affairs.
