Wāhine highlighted in reo Māori awards
The Māori Language Commission has given lifetime achievement awards to three wāhine toa – health advocate Dame Rangimarie Naida Glavish, veteran broadcaster Tini Molyneux and kohanga reo champion Kuini Moehau Reedy.
Kahurangi Naida has been a driving force behind the normalisation and integration of te reo Māori, especially within the healthcare sector.
She told Ngā Tohu Reo Māori in Wellington that learners should keep pursuing te reo as something that can be traced down from the ancestors and resides in their heart.
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori chief executive Ngahiwi Apanui says all 13 recipients of this year’s awards are recognised for their staunch advocacy, innovation, leadership, and vast efforts for te reo Māori.
