Parents at fault if tamariki made homeless says Potaka
Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka says he can’t guarantee tamariki will not be evicted in the Government’s crack down on antisocial social housing tenants.
Housing Minister Chris Bishop has told Kāinga Ora to scrap its Sustaining Tenancies Framework, which aimed to avoid evictions and homelessness.
Mr Potaka says he doesn’t know how many whānau with tamariki may be affected.
“The most important thing is that parents, caregivers and others are very supportive of their tamariki and they act in a very positive and proactive manner to ensure that they retain their residence,” he says.
Minister Potaka says parents need to take responsibility for their actions and know their actions can håve consequences for their whanau.
