Give GST bill a hearing says Waititi
Māori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi says if the Government can guarantee the divisive Treaty Principles Bill gets a select committee hearing, it should do the same for his bill to take GST off food.
Mr Waititi’s bill has been drawn from the ballot, but he fears it will fail at the first reading stage.
He says David Seymour’s bill is about giving racists a platform, while his Bill is about giving people the dignity to feed their family.
“Allow the debate to first reading. Allow the debate to select committee. Seventy percent (in a NewsHub polls last year). This will make a huge difference to the lives of people living here in Aotearoa, ant it’s not just Maori, it’s not just pohara, it’s for everybody,”Mr Waititi says.
