Seymour brings Māori together in opposition
There’s an atmosphere of anticipation as Māori await the arrival of the coalition Government to Te Whare Rūnanga o Waitangi this morning.
The coalition Government including ACT Leader David Seymour will be attending the pōwhiri, with some terse messages expected during the whaikōrero.
ACT is preparing a Bill to impose what it calls the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Hine leader Waihoroi Shortland commends Mr Seymour for uniting Māori.
“I’ve got to take my hat off to David Seymour, he has done what many Māori have tried to do in decades in my observation to bring together Māori in a single mind. His only failure is they’re not singularly behind him, but he’s done it,” Mr Shortland says.
