Don’t tutu with Te Tiriti warns Rahui Papa
Kiingitanga spokesperson Rahui Papa has warned the coalition Government Māori will pull very lever they can to safeguard the Treaty of Waitangi.
During yesterday’s pōwhiri at Ratana., Rahui Papa was one of three kaikōrero who took the Government to task over policies they say disadvantage Māori.
Of particular concern was ACT leader David Seymour’s Bill to rewrite the principles of the treaty.
“Te iwi Māori has confirmed that if there is any measure of meddling with Te Tiriti o Waitangi Māori will not sit idly by. We will pull every lever that we possibly can, to protect the mana and the sanctity of Te Tiriti o Waitangi,” Mr Papa says.
The hau-kainga kaikōrero referred to the coalition government as the three headed taniwha but only National and New Zealand First attended the 151st anniversary of Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana.
The ACT Party who are the proponents of the Treaty Bill was absent from the hui. Leader David Seymour referred to the celebrations as a ‘church service’.
Rātana celebrations marks the start of the political year.
