Divisions the plan says Hipkins
Labour leader Chris Hipkins says the new Government is focused on dividing New Zealanders.
The coalition’s 100-day plan of action includes the reversal of many of Labour’s reforms, including disestablishing the Māori health authority, restoring local referenda to block Māori wards in local government, and discouraging use of te reo Māori in the public sector.
“I think we have a Government now that are focused on dividing New Zealanders and I do understand the concern amongst Maori communities that they are going to be on the wrong end of that. Their policies on te reo Māori, their policies on the Treaty of Waitangi I think will be incredibly divisive,” Mr Hipkins says.
The coalition will also explicitly renounce the decision of the previous National-led Government to sign New Zealand up to the united Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
