Davis makes way for new leadership
Kelvin Davis has confirmed he won’t stand again in 2026.
Mr Davis lost Te Tai Tokerau on special votes to Te Pāti Māori Mariameno Kapa-Kingi, and yesterday he handed over the role of Labour’s deputy leader to Carmel Sepuloni.
“I am not going to stand again in 2026. I didn’t think there was much sense in me being there. I made a decision, I think it’s in the best interests of the party to continue to grow and develop leadership, it would be better to bring in someone new,” he says..
Kelvin Davis entered parliament as a list MP in 2008 and won Te Tai Tokerau in 2014.
