Little counts Ngapuhi progress as he steps down

Outgoing MP Andrew Little says he was proud to make some progress in his role as Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister.
The former Labour Party leader and minister announced his retirement yesterday after 12 years in parliament, including holding senior portfolios of health, defence and the inquiries into Pike River and the Christchurch mosque attacks.
In the treaty area, he says it was great to get settlements with Maniapoto, Whakatohea and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa over the line – and he even takes heart from the one that got away.
“What I’m very pleased about is we’ve changed the conversation with Ngapuhi, we’ve put in place Tupu Tonu, the investment fund, to make sure we have some options and opportunities for Ngapuhi at whatever time they and their hapu are ready to get around the table,” Mr Little says.
He says it’s time to let the next generation of Labour MPs come through.
