Trifecta kids come to parliament

Māori Party president John Tamihere says the party’s two new MPs are fulfilling the promise of the kohanga movement.
21-year-old Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke took the Hauraki-Waikato seat held by Labour’s Nanaia Mahuta, and Takuta Ferris broke the hold of the Tirikatene dynasty on Te Tai Tonga.
Mr Tamihere say 70 percent of the Māori population is under aged 40, and Te Pati Māori set out to reflect that.
“Hana and Doc are what we call the trifecta kids. They got kohanga reo. They got kura kaupapa. They got wharekura. They are fulfilling the outstanding promise of those aunties and nannies who founded the kohange areo movement so long ago,” he says
Mr Tamihere says when the numbers come in it will be seen Te Pati Māori won the 18 to 35s hands down.
