Covid pushes Hipkins campaign online

Labour Party deputy leader Kelvin Davis says the Prime Minister getting Covid is a timely reminder the pandemic is still with us.
Chris Hipkins tested positive on Sunday after feeling cold and flu symptoms, and he’s off the hustings until he gets the all clear.
He’s campaigning by social media, and Mr Davis says while that may give him a wide reach, it’s not the same as talking to people kanohi ki te kanohi.
“There’s nothing like getting out and about and talking to people face to face, shaking hands, meeting them. I guess Covid is one of the outcomes of doing that – with a lot of people there is bound to be someone who has got it and he has picked it up,” he says.
Mr Davis says the risk of Covid is something politicians have to learn to live with, and it won’t stop him attending Te Tai Tokerau candidates’ debate at Moerewa this evening.
