The 2023 Ngā Manu Kōrero National Speech competition has wrapped up in Ōtākou with a near sweep from Te Tai Tokerau rangatahi.

Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rangi Āniwaniwa students Hineteaio Chapman and Elite Reti won Te Rāwhiti Ihaka (Junior Māori) and Pei Te Hurinui Jones (Senior Māori) respectively.

Whangārei Girls High School’s Tuhingaia Manihera won Sir Turi Carroll (Junior English) and Freyberg High School’s Maro Preston winning Korimako (Senior English) representing Manawatū ki Horowhenua.

Te Atamihi Vivienne Papa from Te Wharekura o Maniapoto won the E tipu e reward for most points in both English and Māori sections.
