Second serve for Ka ora ka ako lunches

The Ka ora ka ako school lunch programme will get a boost if Labour returns to Government.
The $130 million programme is currently serving up healthy kai to over 230,000 tauira in 995 schools and kura, at a cost of up to $8.28 a lunch.
After visiting Arakura Primary School in Wainuiomata this week, Labour leader Chris Hipkins says the past four years has been a chance to trial different ways to deliver food in schools.
“The school we visited this morning started with an outsourced model where they were brining in food and they’ve actually insourced it now. They’ve got their own kitchens up and running, they employ their own people. We did want to try different models, we did want to identify the best ways to deliver food in schools and the pilot has shown us a way to do that.,” he says.
