Vaping crackdown welcomed

Health Coalition Aotearoa is welcoming plans by Labour to choke the galloping increase in youth vaping.
On top of new restrictions which come into force next month, Labour has promised to cap the total number of vape stores nationally to 600 total, make vape products less visible from the store front and set fines of up to $15,000 to retailers who sell to under 18-year-olds.
Coalition chair Leitu Tufuga says while the measures are moving in the right direction to reduce youth vaping, which has more than tripled over the past two years.
“The industry is luring our kids and using the same tactics used for tobacco. We want our kids to be smart enough and also have the knowledge to know when they are being manipulative and also making more profit off our young people too,” she says.
