Waipareira upends health schedule

West Auckland-based social service provider Waipareira Trust is trialling a change in the way it works.
Chief executive John Tamihere says it can deliver more services out in the community by being far more mobile.
Drive-by clinics and pop-ups will provide care to mothers and children from 8 to 10 am and between 2 and 4 pm.
There will also be night clinics between 4 and 8 pm.
“These are hours that best fit the people that deserve our service because it’s not about us as a provider of a service. It’s not about a doctor and their practice or a pharmacist and their practice. It’s got to be about the people you serve so we’ve got to be more people-focused as opposed to practice or doctor or pharmacist-focused. It can’t be all about them. We’re paying good money to achieve good healthcare, and we should be devolving it into the communities,” Mr Tamihere says.
