We will get more; Minister Willie Jackson
$200 million has been allocated to Māori Housing in this year’s Wellbeing Budget 2023.
The Minister for Māori Economic Development Hon Willie Jackson pays tribute to the Māori Housing providers around the motu who worked closely with Minister Peeni Henare to secure this year’s funding.
Although Māori have benefitted through the general Vote Housing budget including the Kainga Whenua loan cap increasing from $200,000 to $500,000 announced by Minister Woods last year, this is the single most significant contribution targeting kāinga and whare Māori.
” Minister Henare worked very closely with our providers on the East Coast, in the North in Taranaki. ” says Minister Willie Jackson.
But he says this isn’t the end of the support for housing.
” In terms of more pūtea, we’ll be going back again next year. We can always get more, but we’re very comfortable with where we are right now.” says Minister Willie Jackson.
