Māori culture a superpower for Fable
A South Auckland musician says attending a week-long industry workshop in Amsterdam has given him an appreciation of what Aotearoa can offer the world,
Payton Taplin, known on stage as FABLE, is just back from the JBL Music Academy for 60 up-and-coming artists from all over the world.
He says a lot of people’s vision of New Zealand is Lord of the Rings and vast natural landscapes rather than places like his Papakura hometown.
The workshop made him realise the impact te ao Maori could have on outsiders.
“One of the big takeaways from the event was understanding that our stories and our culture and out tikanga is our superpower, in a way,” Taplin says.
