Never too late for auahi kore
It’s Smoke-Free May and the message from Māori public health advocacy service Hapai Te Hauora is – it’s not too late to quit.
Campaigner Jasmine Graham says smoking is still the most preventable cause of cancer death in Aotearoa, with around 13 people a day dying of smoking or because of second-hand exposure to smoke.
“Our message is always it’s not too late to quit and we have Maori whanau who continue to be running the wrong race in regards to health and we have to opportunity to support the aspirations of Hauora for whanau Maori and reaching the goal of Aotearoa being auahi kore by 2025,” she says.
Events are happening throughout the country this month with a special focus on youth smoking.
