Daniels sets 10-week countdown to world title

Rising boxing champion Lani Daniels is resigned to not seeing her hometown of Pipiwai until she has a world title in reach.
Daniels, from Ngāti Hine, Ngāpuhi, and Te Orewai last week took the Australasian title from Sequita Hemingway of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāi Tūhoe, setting her up for a May 27 bout in Auckland against Alrie Meleisea for the IBF heavyweight women’s world title.
She’s ready to give it her all.
“It takes a lot of commitment. I’m not going to be going home – I haven’t been home for the last five weeks, and I’m down here for another 10 weeks, four days, so it depends what we’re going to get out of it. Because I’d much rather be back home with my whanau, working with our youth, and developing the sport up there,” Daniels says.
The Lani Daniels-Alrie Meleisea fight will be shown live on Sky TV.
