Stars rise for Maranga cyclone relief concert
Whakaata Maori’s Maranga: Rise Up Aotearoa concert keeps getting bigger, as more acts line up to appear on the stage at Parr’s Park in West Auckland on March 25.
Chief executive Shane Taurima says Maori Television was preparing for a smaller Reo in the Park concert, but because of the number of people who wanted to contribute to communities and whānau hit by Cyclone Gabrielle it teamed up with the Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency to put on a national relief concert
Because of the increased interest the concert has been extended to eight hours.
“The likes of Stan Walker, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Troy Kingi, Che Fu, Ria Hall, Bella Kalolo, King Kapisi, and just of three days ago we were able to confirm Bic Runga, Hollie Smith, Teeks, Rob Ruha and Ardijah so all of them wanting to get involved,” he says.
Maranga: Rise Up Aotearoa is free and it will also screen be broadcast live on television and online at Whakaata maori.
