Rotorua airport signs pact with mana whenua

Ngāti Uenukukōpako Iwi Trust has signed a memorandum of understanding with Rotorua Regional Airport.

Trust chair Nireaha Pirika says the agreement follows four years of looking for better ways to work together.

He says it should ensure greater engagement and knowledge sharing, which will benefit the wider Rotokawa community.

As well as respecting the role of mana whenua, the company says it will make Ngāti Uenukukopako aware of internships, work experience and employment opportunities so their rangatahi can gain skills that lead to employment and business opportunities.

The iwi will provide cultural advice on matters that affect the airport.
