Barbershop place for waiata
A Kerikeri barbershop is the setting for a new online series showcasing emerging musicians.
The Barber Shop Sessions is a spin-off from The Barber Shop, an unscripted documentary looking at life in Taitokerau through the eyes of six young Māori men.
Jason Taylor from Tai Huri Films and Tāhuhu Stories of Ancestry says the Chop Shop provides a creative, fun and safe environment for solo artists and bands.
“We’re providing this safe space within the setting of a barbershop for them to try out different things, to present their waiata, their flavour to an audience. That’s really exciting for us to be able to offer that opportunity,” he says.
The six-part series will be realsed on Tahi, the RNZ’s youth platform
