Collins eyes parliament run
Defeated Auckland mayoral candidate Efeso Collins is weighing up his prospects at next year’s general election.
Mr Collins didn’t stand again for a seat on the council, and says he’s not looking for a corporate job.
After taking some time to recover from the campaign, he’s been talking to Labour and the Greens, both of which endorsed his mayoral stand.
He expects election 2023 to be close.
“And if I contribute to making sure that our focus for any kind of policy platform is ensuring vulnerable families are advocated for, that we’ve got a real desire to build more houses and ensure there is enough in benefits and in income, living wage, all those things that really matter to me, then I will talk to anyone who is interested in those things to see how we can continue to push that agenda forward,” Mr Collins says.
He’s proud of the strong support he got in some parts of the super city, particularly the south, but that did not translate across the whole of the city.
