Pūtea release for rural marae water upgrades
The Government is investing $20 million to help upgrade community water systems serving rural marae, papakāinga and kōhanga reo.
Local Government Minister Nanaia Mahuta says if there was a fully functioning system as proposed in the Three Waters reform, such issues would have been already addressed.
“But on the way towards the reform I am proposing we have released a $20 million fund to focus on marae, papakāinga and kōhanga reo so they can have water solutions that make best use of the water supply option they have but also to assure themselves they will have safe drinking water,” she says.
The Government is also calling for applications for a programme to support private rural drinking water suppliers to bring their systems up to Taumata Arowai water standards.
