Oranga Tamariki staff ready to strike
Staff at Oranga Tamariki have voted to strike over low wages and unsafe workloads.
PSA lead organiser Joe McCrory says it follows their rejection of a pay offer that meant real wages would go backwards.
He says the child protection agency is continuing to lose staff, and tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau will lose out on vital support if the situation isn’t turned around.
PSA Rūnanga convenor Bronny Pegler says as well as a pay offer that will help recruit and keep staff, Māori members are looking for cultural leave and recognition of te reo me ōna tikanga.
The first strike will be for between 3 and 3pm on Friday October 28.
