Tamihere to put candidates through their paces
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“John Tamihere to put local body nominees through their paces at the Henderson-Massey Meet The Candidates gathering, Monday September 12 at the Henderson RSA”.
Four days out from voting starting the 20 candidates for the Henderson-Massey electorate have been invited for open question time being moderated by former politician, John Tamihere.
Now CEO of Te Whānau o Waipareira, Mr Tamihere is no stranger to elections and as a local resident he is encouraging people to attend.
“This is our chance to question people who could very well be making decisions on things that affect all of us, in our own neighbourhoods. Our water, roads, parks, traffic, crime – it all comes under their watch. They want us to vote, and we should vote because it is our right too, therefore they should be accountable and earn those votes. What better way to do it then at the local RSA where everyone is invited.”
Henderson-Massey is one of the most contested electorates in Aotearoa with 20 people vying for eight vacancies. Labour is supporting eight, the Greens one, and the rest of the nominees are independent.
“This is a pivotal local body election with an impressive number of people wanting to represent our part of Tāmaki Makaurau. We have a lot of issues in our community that need to be addressed, so I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to say and how they handle themselves”.
Voting papers will be sent to enrolled voters the same day they can start voting, September 16 until it closes at midday October 8.
