After winning over Māori Television audiences with his white gumboots and rasta vibes, Chambers has performed at festivals in Aotearoa and internationally, as well as collaborating with Creative Nātives Collective and Tomorrow People on their hit song Souljah Feeling.
He says Ka Puta Mai is his first waiata in te reo Māori.
The original version was written by his grandfather for Radio Ngāti Porou’s Manu Waiata competition in 2013.
Chambers added arrangements by Creative Nātives and changed some of the lyrics to address current themes.
“So it’s just about whakanui i a Matariki, it’s about time it’s been acknowledged,” he says.
