Māori broadcasting chance to influence
Māori Development and Māori Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson says broadcasting is an under-appreciated area of Māori development.
Mr Jackson picked up the main broadcasting portfolio from Kris Faafoi in this week’s cabinet reshuffle.
That has raised questions about the fate of proposals for Māori broadcasting which have been worked on for almost five years by Mr Jackson and his predecessor Nanaia Mahuta.
He says it’s still a priority.
“We talk about everything – quite rightly housing, health, economic development – broadcasting is something that is forgotten a lot and I have always seen it is as one of the most important areas of Māori development because the opportunity to influence, the opportunity to get our perspective out is incredibly important so I hold it right up there in terms of priority,” Mr Jackson says.
