Peke-Mason ready to serve in bicultural Parliament
Soon to be Labour MP Soraya Peke-Mason says she’s excited to finally get the chance to go to serve in Parliament.
Ms Peke Mason will be sworn in in September, after Speaker Trevor Mallard leaves to take up a diplomatic post in Ireland.
Since standing for Rangitikei in 2020 she has been working in the health reforms as an appointed member of the Whanganui District Health Board, and she’s also working for the Whanganui Regional Health Network and Ruapehu Health Ltd in Raetihi.
She says a lot has changed since she first stood for parliament in 2011, especially the increased prominence of Labour’s Maori caucus.
“No comparison at all, It’s absolutely exciting for us, it’s exciting for our country, Aotearoa, and it’s exciting for the biculturalism of our country which is what we are,” Ms Peke-Mason says.
