Jackson has history to make broadcasting impact

A Māori media analyst says the appointment of Willie Jackson as Minister of Broadcasting will be great for Māori broadcasting.
AUT associate professor Ella Henry says Mr Jackson has fought for decades for Māori to not only have their own media but to be integrated into the overall sector,
Now he has the responsibility to make it happen.
“He has been a strong advocate of authentic Māori storytelling, of good and rigorous Māori journalism for, with and by Māori, so I see this as a real and tangible and positive outcome for the whole industry sector,” Dr Henry says.
She says there’s a global demand for Māori and indigenous storytelling, but there has been little in the way of equitable funding, training and official support.
