A Māori mental health programme is highlighting the struggles of tangata whai ora to get vaccinated.
Nōku Te Ao: Like Minds has released three videos of tangata whai ora talking about getting the jab.
Tū Pakari, Tū Taha programme director Micheal Naera says Māori with mental health problems tend to not trust government agencies or the health system because of the discrimination they experience, and they’re far less likely to be vaccinated.
“We also know that tangata whai ora deal with structural discrimination in health and employment sectors contributing to poor health outcomes, and the Covid-19 rollout has increased those inequities faced by tangata whai ora,” he says.
