Kerekere in sin bin for Covid breach
MP Elizabeth Kerekere has been stood down as the Green Party’s Covid kaikōrero after breaking lockdown rules.
The Tairāwhiti-based MP returned to Wellington on Sunday, two days after a household member tested positive for the virus.
Dr Kerekere tested negative for three consecutive days before travelling.
Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says the party has sought advice from health authorities.
She says while Dr Kerekere’s actions are disappointing it’s not a sackable offence and there will be a way for the MP to get back her Covid-19 and health portfolios.
In the meanwhile, Te Anau Tuiono will take over as Covid-19 spokesperson and Jan Logie will cover health.
