A Ukrainian living in New Zealand is looking for action rather than talk from the Government.
Eugene Bidvney, who has family in Kyiv, was annoyed to hear the Prime Minister say she had sent a message to Russia that what they are doing was wrong.
He says that doesn’t work with dictators.
“They know they’re not doing something anyone likes and they know that they’re wrong. New Zealand is not a big world power but we certainly have powerful allies. New Zealand should join other countries in actually supplying things Ukraine needs to defend itself as well as humanitarian efforts,” Mr Bidvney says.
He says while many of those fleeing Ukraine won’t want to come as far as New Zealand, he can’t even get a visa for his mother to visit New Zealand because officials say she will want to stay long-term.
