John Luxton great contributor to Waikato-Tainui story

Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta has paid tribute to her predecessor John Luxton, who died on Tuesday aged 75.
Mr Luxton was a National MP from 1987 to 2002, representing Matamata and Karapiro, and held a wide range of portfolios during his three terms in Cabinet.
Ms Mahuta says as Minister of Māori Affairs from 1993 to 1996, Mr Luxton helped steward the Waikato-Tainui settlement and went on to become a founding co-chair of the Waikato River Authority.
He was also a great contributor to the dairy industry, including chairing Dairy NZ, and was a leader across a number of companies and organisations.
She says his friendships extended throughout New Zealand and beyond, and those that were lucky to work alongside him benefitted from his inclusiveness, good humour, sense of adventure, and enduring sense of calm.
