Winning start on whenua for Morgan
A 26-year-old Bay of Plenty farm assistant has been named this year’s Ahuwhenua Young Māori Farmer, despite only being in his first season of farming.
Quinn Morgan works for Sam and Kate Moore on their 155ha farm in Ōtākiri near Whakatāne, where they milk 570 cross breed cows through a 36 a side shed.
Judge Aaron Hunt says Mr Morgan exemplifies all that is good about young Māori who are making successful careers in the primary sector.
He has shown great commitment to his work, excellent leadership and will do a great job as a role model for other young Māori contemplating a career in the agribusiness sector.
The awards, which has been run since 2012, is designed to recognise talented up-and-coming young Māori farmers and growers, encourage young Māori to make farming a career choice, and showcase to prospective employers, the talent pool that exists within Māori .
