Kauri sapling marks commitment to te tiriti

Multicultural New Zealand is taking 50 community leaders from around New Zealand on a hīkoi to Waitangi this weekend to plant a kauri tree on the Treaty Grounds as a gesture of commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Association president Pancha Narayanan says the gesture recognises they are only able to call Aotearoa home by the grace of tangata whenua and te tiriti.
The group will also stop in Whangārei and Ruapekapeka to learn more of the history and meaning of Te Tiriti o Waitangi from elders including Taipari Munro.
