Role Funding:

The Council of Trade Unions is welcoming the introduction of the new legal minimum wage of $20 per hour from today.

CTU president Richard Wagstaff says it means a pay rise for more than 170,000 New Zealanders, putting $44 a week before tax into the pockets of those who were on the previous minimum wage of $18.90.

He says COVID-19 has shown how crucial many minimum wage jobs are to the functioning of society.
