Iwi leaders take on anti-vaxxers

The chair of the Iwi Leaders Pandemic Response Group says it’s concerned at the promotion of anti-vaccination sentiment around the country.
Mike Smith says the group is encouraging Māori to have the shots when they become available – and it’s pushing for some groups, such as rest home workers, to be pushed up the priority list.
But there are others who don’t feel that way and instead trade in misinformation.
"In some areas that is quite an orchestrated and organised thing. I have observed people gathering on street corners with placards and signs and calling for the public to resist the vaccination, and I think that's a very dangerous thing," Mr Smith says.
He says iwi leaders are considering a communication plan to counter the vaccine misinformation.
