Tāmaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare is keen for supporters and opponents of the Erebus memorial to talk through their differences.

A group led by Ngāti Whātua Rūnanga chair Dame Naida Glavish is holding a sit in at Dove Meyer Robinson Park in Parnell, the proposed site for the memorial and also the site of Mataharehare Pā.

Ngāti Whatua Orakei, which backs the project, has offered its marae for korero with opponents and with families of those who died in the crash 41 years ago.

Mr Henare says that’s a helpful suggestion.

"I think it might just be a case of bringing everyone into the same room and talking this take out rather than airing it through the media. It's Thursday now. It would be good if we could have a meeting between now and the weekend," he says.
