Vodafone hopes humour will counter 5G rumours

Vodafone hopes a new partnership with south Auckland group Ngahere Communities and social media influencer Torrell Tafa will help stop attacks on its equipment.
During New Zealand's level four lockdown in April and May there was a spate of attacks on cellphone towers sparked by misinformation spread online about the safety of fifth generation mobile network technology or 5G.
Vodafone NZ head of Māori development Kirstin Te Wao says a lack of cultural diversity in the tech sector means many of its messages don't resonate at community level.
She says partnerships means it can bring community concerns, voices and solutions to the fore.
The three online videos produced by Ngahere Communities and broadcast through Tafa's online channels use humour to beat rumours and feature industry expert Nikora Ngaropo.
